They handed me a mirror

Aisha didn’t want to be anyone’s charity case. “I’d had enough people feel sorry for me,” she says. “That’s not what I needed.”

What she found instead was a habit. Every morning, Glimmer of Hope asked her one small question: what’s one good thing? Some days it was hard to answer. She answered anyway.

“They didn’t hand me charity. They handed me a mirror and said: look how strong you already are.”

The practice was hers alone until she joined a Rise Together circle and discovered a room full of women keeping the same small promise to themselves.

Months later, Aisha still opens the app most mornings. “It’s not magic,” she says. “It’s just proof, in my own handwriting, that I keep showing up. And that turned out to be everything.”

Shared with Aisha’s permission.

Her story started with someone who cared. Be that for the next woman.
